The 6 R's of Mindfulness Meditation

Bhante VimalaramsiDuring this past weekend's Meditation Workshop in Phoenix, we spent a fair amount of time during the lecutre period discussing the instructions given to meditatiors in the Anapansati Sutta (MN-118).

Master Sam FS Chin, during his last visit, gave me a text by the Ven. Vimalaramsi which discusses these instructions in a very clear fashion and also has an excellent outline to progress smoothly with your meditation practice called the Six "R's".

During the recent workshop in Santa Fe, Master Chin discussed, that with too much tension or the wrong effort during meditation that even monks can find themselves vomitting blood due to the stress, so smooth, easy meditation is important to progress!

A professor of Ethics and Religion at Xavier University, Loy has written many works in comparative religious philosophy. He is a Zen practitioner and authorized teacher in the Sanbo Kyodan lineage of Zen Buddhism who sits on the editorial boards of Contemporary Buddhism and Worldviews.
