Our approach teaches that martial arts are about three things;

  • Power
  • Offense
  • Defense

I-Liq Chuan is a "soft-hard" style of martial art. Although the highest goal is to become very soft, and focus on nuetralizing the opponents power, in the intial stages great emphasis is placed on "meeting the force". This is in order for the student to recognize what force is.

Our method, like jiu-jutsu, relies heavily on controlling the opponents balance and using leverage over brute force. Offensively, we teach the use of

  • striking
  • kicking
  • knees
  • elbow
  • throws
  • locking and grabbing (qin na)

Throughout a students time training, the greatest emphasis is always placed on mindfulness. Rather than training movements to become a form of reflexive habit, students are taught to place their attention and concentration on the movements they perform with their body.

The History of I-Liq Chuan

moving step spinning hands with Master Sam F.S. Chin I Liq Chuan comes from the diverse Chinese community in Malaysia. The Grandmaster (Sigong Chin, Lik Keong) Created the art after studying and mastering the essence of several other arts.

He studied with Sifu Lee Sum training Lee Style (Shaolin Quan), Sifu Len training Phoenix Eye (the striking of meridian points, Dian Mai or Dim Mak in Cantonese). And lastly, he learned Feng Yang Lu Yi from Master Lee Kam Chow, which is also called Xingyi-Bagua.

After many years of practice and study he came to some conclusions about the Dao (Nature) of the Arts and so, in 1976 I Liq Chuan was born.
